This is the Five Minute Walk Project. For this I needed to go out in public and take pictures of things I found interesting. These pictures needed to be taken within 5 minutes of each other, hence the name of the project. I took these pictures at Hampton Beach in New Hampshire. It was during the winter so there is some snow on the ground and icicles hanging from the benches. The "Cinnamon Rainbows" store is a surf shop across from the beach entry way. I really liked the bright colors of the sign, so that is why I took a picture of it. I also made this collage in Pixlr.
Instagram Pastiche Project
For this project I got to chose a picture on Instagram that stood out to me and recreate it. On the left there is picture from the Instagram user @brahmino. This picture really stood out to me because of the placing of the flower. I like how everything is blurred behind it and that the flower almost points to the moon. I tried to do the same, but it being the end of the winter, there was not as pretty flowers as hers!
Self-Portrait Project
For this project I got inspiration from Vivian Maier. She was a photographer who did not have straight forward pictures of herself. Instead she used shadows and reflections to capture herself. For my self-portrait I tried to recreate what she did. I took a picture of my reflection in the rear-view mirror of a car. I was driving into Boston when doing this, so you can see buildings in the background. Link to Vivian Maier's self-portraits: www.vivianmaier.com/gallery/self-portraits/
Food Photography Project
For this project I had to take pictures of food. For mine, I took pictures of a smoothie bowl. On top there is granola and bananas. There is also honey, which is what the shiny parts are. After taking the pictures I went into Pixlr (like a Photoshop) and adjusted the contrast and used the clone-stamp tool to clean up the stains on the bowl.
Self- Assignment Project
For the Self-Assignment Project I got to take creative control and decide what I do. I chose to take pictures of water and food coloring mixed together. For the pictures on the left and right, I used red and blue food coloring. And for the picture in the middle, I used red and green food coloring. I had a glass bowl of water and would add the coloring in a random way to create these cool designs. I took these pictures very up close, to focus on the interesting designs that were created.
Picture in a Picture Project
For this project I had to take two pictures of a photo that I was holding in front of the camera (the pictures on the ends). I also had to do a "picture in a picture" using photoshop. For that one I took two separate pictures; one of me holding a picture frame in front of the pond and the other of the pond itself. I used photoshop to cut the frame out of the first picture and add it to the pond picture. I then made everything black and white outside of the frame, to make the frame and what is inside of it the focal point.
Panograph
For this project I took over 35 pictures at Stiles Pond. I then collaged all the pictures to create this Panograph. I did my editing in photoshop, which mainly consisted of sizing and rotating the images, and then decreasing the opacity to 90%, instead of the normal 100%. By doing this, it makes each image more distinct and makes it easier to see that it is a collage.
Object on a different Background
The picture on the left is a photograph I took of a fake owl in the photo studio. The middle picture is just a simple photo of a rock wall that I got off of google. For this project I learned how to cut an image precisely out of a photo, in this case the owl on the left, and then add it to another picture and create a shadow, which is the picture on the right. I did this by making a copy of the owl and then going to edit>transform>flip vertical on photoshop. After doing that I used the distort tool to try and move the shadow into the right spot. Then I used the Gaussian blur, turned the brightness all the way down and the contrast all the way up, and lowered the opacity of the shadow. The final result is on the right.
